She Will Be Greatly Missed

My grandmother passed away Thursday, June 10. Even though she was in and out of the hospital, her death came as a surprise. She had been doing much better, physically, and no one was prepared for this. My grandmother was a beautiful, intelligent, and strong woman. She was dedicated to her Church and was a faithful servant of God. We will all miss her beautiful smile, quick wit and honest ways. We are blessed to have such a wonderful spirit to look after the rest of us who are waiting our turn to join her in God's heavenly kingdom. I love you beyond words Maw Maw.

We had a great weekend! Mark, Kim, Brandon and Brooklyn came to town for band practice, and our band has been working on our own songs. We also have incorporated the fantastic "jamhub" which creates a virtual room for the band to play in and record! After our guests headed home, we decided to take advantage of the perfect weather and head to the Audubon Zoo!

Tristan was in a Christmas program, shopping is done, and Belle is talking all about "Clause". Apparently, she prefers calling him by his last name. Nana and Papa are coming in from Oregon, so we are excited. Amy and the kids get a good 2 week Christmas break. Doug might get Christmas Eve off...we aren't sure yet... Anyway, Doug was forced to put "cheezy" inflatable decor, and now he doesn't want to deflate them. Christmas is going to be a blast this year. We are all alive, healthy and happy.

Two Trips in 3 days

Isabelle has made 2 trips to the doctor in the last three days. She started running fever on Sunday afternoon. I brought her to the doctor on Monday and she was diagnosed with strep throat. I had to bring her back today, because of bumps on her body. Doctor diagnosed it as a viral rash of some sort...just glad it wasn't a reaction to the antibiotics. I hope we have a much calmer weekend!

Today was a good, but emotional day. I am so happy for Tristan, he was so excited today!!! He spent most of the day dancing and singing around the house and asking when Mima was going to call. We are also feeling a little lost right now....it is too quiet without Tristan here. The house feels empty, but we will all adjust. What is most important is that Tristan is on cloud nine right now. We can't wait to get to Baton Rouge this weekend. Should be fun!

Isabelle's First Birthday Party

We had Isabelle's 1st birthday party on Friday...we cheated by 2 days, but we wanted to avoid the rain predicted for the 19th. We had an awesome day. Josh, Stacy, and the boys came from Baton Rouge to join us. Almost all of our family and friends were there. Izzy thoroughly enjoyed her day...Tristan had a great time, too. He kept saying, "I am having the most fun ever out there!" We rented a fun jump for the kids and that kept them very busy. They also played on the swing set and the kiddie roller coaster set up in the yard while the adults enjoyed yummy crawfish. The past year has flown by, I have been very sentimental remembering back to these days last year. Our lives have changed so much since Isabelle joined us and it has all been for the better. I can't imagine what we ever did without her! Thanks to everyone who helped make the day unforgetable.

Easter

Well, Easter is here and the weather is great! Belle will turn 1 next Sunday! She has perfected walking, and both she and her brother love to dig into everything. Tristan is enjoying his new fish, which he named "Catfish Obelix" after our late pet cat. The fish however, is not a catfish...it is a Siamese Fighting Fish. The Easter Bunny dropped some chocolate off for Tristan. Next year I think I will make rabbit stew out of the chocolate pushing bunny.

Karate Kid (or Man)

Tristan has been taking karate lesson and they have recently started working on breaking boards. So, Doug decided that he would go and buy some boards and work with Tristan at home. On Friday afternoon Doug decided to give it a go. He was sucessful in breaking the board, unfortunately the board broke his hand in return. Here are the X-rays. You can see the pinky bone. It is called a boxer's fracture. The doctor compared the knuckle to a scoop of ice cream falling off of the cone. Doug has to go to the doctor on Monday and get the bone jammed back into place. ughh...glad it is not me! Then again, I don't chop boards in my spare time!

We had our first crawfish boil of the year on Saturday. My brother coming in from Ohio was the occasion. Tristan loved helping get the crawfish ready and Isabelle is too little to know that she will one day be terrified of live crawfish. We had a lot of fun and the crawfish were yummy!!!

Doug's Brithday Adventure

Doug's birthday is tomorrow, but since Monday is a work day we celebrated some today. I tried to surprise Doug with a trip to Avery Island, where Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce is made. Of course, Doug cannot stand the idea of a surprise and guessed all day on Saturday, until he finally came up with the right guess. So the kids stayed with my parents while we went to learn all about how Doug's favorite condiment is made. Here are some snapshots of our visit.

We had a great trip to Oregon. Doug was finally able to show Tristan and Amy where he grew up in central Oregon, and we visited numerous family and friends, who were all happy to meet Isabelle. Tristan found the most enormous pile of leaves to dive into, and he completely disappeared a few times. If you look closely in the top picture, you might see Tristan's shoes sticking out of the leaves following a headfirst dive into the leaves. Even though the trip wasn't restful, it was wonderful.

Doug starts work at Dauterive Hospital tommorow morning. Tristan is now riding the school bus, and Izzy will be staying with her aunt Nanny during the day. Lots of changes, but life remains wonderful!

We are loving this weather! Anywhere else in the U.S. might think it would be too hot to play outside, but compared to a few weeks ago, the temperature is fantastic! Paw and Doug put together a fort for Tristan in Nonna and Paw's backyard. He has been throwing water ballons and calling them cannonballs. We have also been playing alot of baseball, and Tristan can now hit pitches thrown overhand...some even fly over the house! Football season is also here! Geaux Tigers! Doug has had a few job interviews, so the Mr. Mom days might be over soon :(

Our move to Franklin was a great choice! We have so much fun spending time with our family down here. Izzy and Tristan are both growing up so fast! Tristan is loving school, and loves his sister dearly. Izzy loves spending time with her Daddy while he is searching for a job, and Amy is doing well with teaching. So I left early for work this morning because I had some work to do in my classroom. Now, the Franklin area is not known for heavy traffic, in fact in the almost 20 years that I have lived here, I have never been in heavy traffic in Franklin. But...it took 30 minutes to drive what normally takes about 8 minutes. So..I am already freaking out a little because I am going to be arriving to work right before the bell rings. Then, my car starts to smell a little funny and my temp gauge is on hot. The car starts smoking! I pull over into a truck stop about 3 minutes from my school and call Doug. I call my prinicpal and let her know what is going on and I sit and wait for Doug. And I wait for Doug, and I wait for Doug! By this time the traffic is even worse and it takes him quite a while to get to me. So, now we need to get the car to a repair shop. We put water in the radiator and head back to Franklin. This means I have to call my principal and let her know that I will not be making it in today. I can't take the other car back to work, because then Doug will have no way to pick Tristan up from school. So, as you can imagine I am stressed beyond my limit and my prinicpal is probably not too happy about trying to figure out what to do with my kids with zero notice. We bring the car the the repair shop, hoping that it will only be a hose or something VERY small (with a very small price tag). The silver lining: another day at home with my baby!

Tristan and Amy have begun school! Tristan is doing really well in class and enjoys his new school. Amy is adjusting to teaching, which is proving to be more time consuming and demanding than she imagined. Doug's role as Mr. Mom is challenging but fun. He is currently looking for a social work position, but the jobs are slim pickings. Izzy is growing up quickly, and loves her rice cereal!

Freeman Family Moves to Franklin

Well, we finally made the move to Franklin. We have been trying to find social work jobs in the Franklin area for quite some time, but have been unsuccessful. I finally decided that I would attempt to get a job teaching. I called on a Monday about teaching positions, interviewed on Thursday morning, got an unoffical offer on that same Thursday afternoon, and had a house by Saturday. We packed up our entire house in Baton Rouge, except for an air mattress for Doug, and moved one week after the interview. I have been in meetings since Friday and will be working to get my classroom ready. I will be teaching 4th grade Reading, Science, and English Language Arts. Tristan is registered for Pre-K and got his uniforms today. He is so proud to start "big kid" school and to have uniforms.

I had my 36 week ultrasound on Thursday. Izzy is already weighing in at 6 lbs. 10 oz. She has a full head of LONG hair. I start going to my doctor every week now, and my due date is less than one month away! I am excited and nervous all at once. I will be staying home and nesting for the next couple of weeks. Wish us luck!

For those of you who haven't heard, my last day of work will be Wednesday, March 19.
I plan to rest for the couple of weeks before my due date, provided Isabelle doesn't decide to make an early appearance. Tristan will continue in daycare through April, then he will stay home with me and Isabelle until he starts Pre-K in August. I am delighted with our decision and cannot wait to be a full-time mom to Tristan and Isabelle. Say some prayers for us...this will be quite an adjustment, but we know we can do it!

Well, Christmas and New Years have come and gone and I haven't done a single post. Shame on me. We have been keeping pretty busy and I haven't found much time for blogging. But...in light of Doug becoming an old man I thought I would post something for his birthday. Doug will be 32 on Saturday. We plan to spend the weekend in Franklin and go out to the casino on Saturday night (I think). Doug's gift is ordered and I think we will have dinner at the new Mexican Restaurant at the casino. Mexican is our favorite!!! So, if you have time please take a moment to harass Doug for being so freakin' old!!!!

P.S. I love you sweetie!! You are young at heart and that's what counts!

So it turns out that Doug's gallbladder is really lazy...it is only functioning at 18%. It is so lazy in fact, that the doctors have decided to remove it...because if you are an organ, and residing in somebody's body, you either need to earn your keep or be forcibly removed.

Doug is now a Social Worker on the CAHSD Satellite Team. He travels to outlying clinics in the surrounding parishes and provides therapy (along with other social-worky type services) to his clients. If only he could empower his gallbladder to take some responsibilty and start behaving well.

What's Kickin'

ISABELLE!!! So, she has been kicking and moving nearly constantly. Scary if it is any indicator of how active she is going to be once she is born! The kicks have been getting harder and harder. I have been trying to get her to kick Doug hard, but she was uncooperative, until last night. Right before we were going to sleep she gave me a hard kick. So, I made Doug wait for another kick and sure enough...he finally felt it. We were so excited!!! YAY!

Baby News!!!

Well, Doug, Tristan, and I got in a car accident on Sunday. Tristan, baby bear, and myself are fine. Doug has muscle pain in his neck and some possible internal bruising/bleeding. The silver lining is that my OB did an ultra sound just to check everything out and we now know what we are having. IT'S A GIRL!!!! I am so glad Doug got his wish. It is going to be really hard to wait for her arrival now that we know what baby bear is. We have almost offically decided on a name....99.8% sure...Isabelle Katherine.

So, this morning I was watching "My Friends Tigger and Pooh" with Tristan while we were waiting on Doug to get ready. One of the characters on the show asked the little children watching at home if they wanted to be "super sleuths". Tristan didn't answer her, so I asked him "Tristan, do you want to be a super sleuth?" He said "No". I asked him why not. His reply...."I don't want to be on TV". I almost fell off of the bed. I think that is the funniest possible response I could have gotten. Anyway, just thought I would share.

Doctor

I went to the doctor yesterday for my 17 week visit. Baby bear was very active while the doctor was trying to find the heartbeat. She was chasing the baby all over! She finally got baby bear to keep still and got a heart rate of 156. I have only gained 2 pounds so far in the pregnancy! Every thing seems to be going really well so far. My next appointment in on December 4 for an ultra sound!!!! I cannot wait, Doug and I are dying to find out what we are having.

Playhouse Disney Live

We decided at around 8:30 this morning that it would be fun to go to playhouse disney live in lafayette. We had tickets by 9:00 and left at 10. Tristan LOVED the show. He got to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy; Little Einsteins; Handy Manny; and Tigger and Pooh. Tigger was his favorite. He was giggling with delight whenever Tigger would talk or jump. It was adorable. He got a Little Einsteins globe light orchestra wand. He had so much fun that he did not want to leave. Of course the show was during nap time, so we were already on shaky ground. There was some fit throwing when we had to leave, but regardless he had so much fun. We may have to consider Sesame Street Live in October!

The moment has arrived...WE ARE MOVING!!!! For those of you who don't know we have been ready to leave our current apartment for quite some time. Well, the time has arrived. However, we have to be out by the 1st to avoid paying two rents. So we are in a mad rush to get everything out!!!! Call us if you care to contribute! I will post some video of the house later. It is one unit in a duplex. It is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with all hardwood floors. So, the next few days are going to be crazy. Tristan is going to stay with his MiMa until Tuesday so that we can do this very quickly. Amy will be packing up during the day while Doug finishes up his last few days of his internship. Tuesday night is the final exodus. We are renting a moving van and clearing the place out completely by Tuesay night. Wish us luck!!!!

3 tier, white fondant, with cornflower blue ribbon at the bottom of each layer. fresh flowers (calla lillies and hydrangeas) on top. There was supposed to be pearl icing drops on the cake, but Gambino's messed up and forgot that part. Doug's cake was a 2 layer devil's food cake in the shape of a fleur de lis. It was supposed to have strawberry filling, but once again Gambino's messed up and used chocolate filling.....do you see a trend?

Yes...embarassment. Balloons, condoms, and "Just Marred" on the rear windshield. And no that wasn't a mistake...thanks, tommy, bob, shane, and dennis

. Where did you go on your honey moon?
Spent the night at a Bed and Breakfast in New Iberia, then back to reality. No time for a honeymoon with a job, internship, and a kid!

. The kicker: Are you still married?
Yes! Geeze it was less than one month ago.

The Wedding Day

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. The rain stopped 5 minutes before the ceremony, leaving just enough time to dry the chairs and begin on time. The ceremony went by so fast for me. Tristan was adorable and managed to stay still for much longer than I expected. The reception was so much fun. I never expected to enjoy my own wedding reception as much as I did. Doug and I were so tired when we got to the Bed and Breakfast. We were also starving. We called every fast food place in the phone book trying to find one that was open. We finally made our way to a Checkers...I wish we had remembered to take our food from the reception. Anyway...we are so thankful that so many of our friends and family members could be at the wedding to share in our love. The biggest thanks of all go to our parents and Jeff. Jeff took over 3,000 pictures and the ones we have seen (the ones posted here, with no touch ups) are too beautiful for words. We love you guys! We apprectiate the presence of each person who attended. Our day would not have been the same without all of you!

Doug and I decided to give the blogging thing a try after Josh and Stacy introduced the idea to us. I hope we are able to update pretty often. I guess the best place to start is the wedding. The next post will have some pictures and our thoughts about our big day!
